Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve games, marking the club's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell such as this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
