Government Faced Allegations of Assault on Free Speech After UK Reporter Detained
A prominent Islamic civil rights organization has alleged the current government of a “blatant attack to freedom of expression” after federal border officials detained British journalist Sami Hamdi this past Sunday.
This body claimed that Hamdi was taken into custody at San Francisco airport due to condemning Israel’s ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip. He is one of several persons who have been detained and removed by immigration enforcement for expressing pro-Palestinian stances.
The Department of Homeland Security stated that the journalist’s visa had been canceled, and that he was in detention “awaiting deportation.”
Immigration Authorities Detains UK Reporter After Criticism of Israeli Policies
British journalist Sami Hamdi was said to be detained over the weekend by border officials at a major US airport, and the civil rights group claims that the detention is apparent punishment for the Muslim analyst’s comments of Israeli actions while touring the US.
An announcement from the organization labeled it was “a clear attack to freedom of expression” to hold Hamdi for criticizing the Israeli current military operations in the Gaza region while he engaged on a speaking tour. An administration official stated in a different statement that Hamdi is being deported.
