Recent Details Come to Light Concerning the Discovery of the Reiner Couple's Remains
New information has come to light about the shocking demises of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were found at their residence property on Sunday.
A Discovery
A source indicates quoting a person close to the family, a practitioner arriving for an session first raised the alarm after being unable to gain access the home. The therapist then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides in the vicinity.
After gaining access to the home, Romy came upon her father's body. Reports state she then left the home distraught, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. Another individual who had gone with her then dialed 911. Afterward, first responders located Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Legal Developments
Law enforcement have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of murder in the first degree, including the use of a dangerous weapon, said to be a knife. He is now in custody without bail.
Correcting the Record
The confidential informant questioned several previously reported details. They said that while Romy Reiner told first responders that her brother Nick resided in a separate structure on the estate, she did not identify him as a suspect at that juncture.
The source also refuted widely reported notions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "concerned" about Nick's actions in the weeks leading up to the incident. Instead the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement includes descriptions of reportedly "unpredictable" behavior by Nick at a gathering hosted by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the tragedy. While the source said they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they said that reports of a "blow-up" between the two were inaccurate.
Ongoing Inquiry Details
As stated by law enforcement officials, the medical examiner had still not confirmed at that point whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Some accounts suggested the state of their bodies pointed to they had been dead for a number of hours.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the scene. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, indicated his client had a medical issue and would not appear until Wednesday or later.
