The Gruesome Cartoon Film Ending That Haunts Fans
Out of all the adult-oriented cartoon movies I have personally viewed, no other has lingered in my mind as much as the terror-laced ending of the graphically gory as well as deeply subversive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, this Spanish writer-director created a dark, bleak , often savage world that included a few small , desolate twinges of optimism.
While The Unicorn Wars appears as it originated from an impulse to push the medium even more, the director stated that it was more an attempt to express a global, cross-cultural theme regarding “the common origin of each battle.”
That idea is communicated through a squad of vividly colored bears , clearly based on a well-known series of cuddly characters.
Being raised in a society centered on militarism as well as the war machine, many of the bears are obsessed with slaughtering the mythical beasts, due to a sacred text that claims them they were once masters of the woodland, until these creatures drove them out.
Others have not completely fallen for the brainwashing, and would rather try out drugs and engage sexually outdoors.
In contrast to their cuddly equivalents, these vivid animals have visible genitals , obvious urges.
For one particularly cruel, cynical bear, the character Bluey, the conflict with the unicorns becomes a road to control — and particularly to supremacy above his gentler, nicer brother Tubby.
The character acts as a tormentor and an apparent antisocial figure , and while terror dominates his squad and takes his fellow soldiers one by one, he seizes more and more control on his own behalf, through ever more gory, destructive ways.
Simultaneously, the unicorns are experiencing their own terror, as a growing, destructive monster in their woods.
“In the early stages, it feels like a lighthearted film,” the director said. “However it turns into a more intense and sad film. And by the end, it’s a terrifying movie.”
The Unicorn Wars commences feeling a bit like among the whimsical features by a legendary animator, which find a naughty glee in allowing drawn beings curse, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.
Afterward it evolves into something more like a more grim work by that same director, with increasingly visual gore and a noticeable link to genuine tragedy of war.
In the finale, it is a full-on extreme drama massacre.
The fear that turns this an ideal spooky-season movie kicks in much sooner than one might expect.
Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore gorehounds, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who wish to watch something they’ve never seen on-screen before, and who can handle a plot that pulls unflinching brutality.
View it with the lights off free from interruptions, and the finale will crawl under your skin and linger.
