The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family navigate their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
