The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
